Reintegration support – a chance for migrants to start a new life

English

Return migration is not only flying back home. A flight of a few hours might change the physical location of the returnee but adjusting mentally to being back takes much more time. Reintegration should not be counted in hours but in weeks and months. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to successful reintegration, comprehensive support helps restarting the life back home.

Encouragement and realism - how to get a job in Finland as an asylum seeker?

English

“How do you pay taxes in Finland?”. This question by an Eritrean asylum seeker illustrates one big differences between countries. The Finnish taxation procedures can seem tricky since in Eritrea taxes are reimbursed after your employment ends. This and many other aspects of the Finnish working life aroused interest at the pilot training sessions organized by IOM for asylum seekers in a reception center.

A stepping stone to working life

The training pilots were carried out as part of EU relocation programme funded by the the European Union.

Why does migration to Iceland matter?

English

Iceland is rapidly growing from a relatively small, far away island to a recognized actor among the Nordic Countries. Many migrants come to Iceland to explore opportunities, to embark on a new path in life, to work, to study, to seek asylum or as quota refugees. Visitors are welcomed, as a valuable source of tourism, work force and an addition to the gene pool.

Rohkaisua ja realismia: Työelämäkoulutusta turvapaikanhakijoille

Finnish

”Miten Suomessa maksetaan veroja?” kysyy eritrealainen turvapaikanhakija IOM:n kouluttajilta työelämäkoulutuksessa vastaanottokeskuksessa. Suomalaisessa verotuskäytännössä riittää ihmeteltävää, sillä Eritreassa on tapana saada maksetut verot takaisin, kun työsuhde päättyy. Kouluttajana oli mieluista huomata kuinka suuri tiedonhalu turvapaikanhakijoilla oli saada tietää lisää suomalaisen työelämän perusteista.
