IOM Finland and the Icelandic authorities have agreed to continue their cooperation on migrant returns.

IOM Finland will continue to provide Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) services to eligible migrants who wish to return home from Iceland at least until January of 2020.

The AVRR programme in Iceland started as pilot project in August 2016 and has assisted over 100 migrants to return home safely.

The programme’s aim is to offer a practical alternative for migrants to return voluntarily to their country of origin in a humane, sustainable and dignified manner. Eligible migrants will receive counselling as well as administrative, logistical and financial support.
